Adrian Stone has been building, repairing, and surveying yachts, since 1974.


As the managing director of his own boat building business in Cowes, he has accumulated 34 years of experience in all aspects of boat construction and repair.


Adrian started his wooden boat building apprenticeship at Priors on the east coast

and later with Mylor Yacht Harbour, and Falmouth Technical college Adrian has gained a wealth of knowledge in traditional wooden boat building skills, covering all types of construction; clinker, carvel, double diagonal, strip plank epoxy, and built cold moulded racing yachts and motor boats up to 70 feet. He has also formally studied boat yard management and operations at Southampton College of Higher Education, prior to stating his own boat building and repair business in Cowes.


The core of the Cowes business was repairing and refitting every type of vessel from

small sailing yachts in fibre glass to Admiral's Cup racing yachts in carbon, Kevlar, composite materials, and building steam launches, totally refitting / rebuilding Milne sailing Yachts and the total reconstruction of 60 foot wooden sailing yacht by Dixon Kemp.

The business reached its pinnacle when Adrian joined the build team on Sojana, 115 foot Farr designed ketch, epoxy Carbon composite, and became a member of the crew racing in  the super yacht cup in Antigua.
Adrian has also completed other Ocean crossings on Dubois Super Yacht 130 feet,  "Mammouchi".

After retiring from his own business, Adrian went on to work as the Conservation Manager for the  Windermere Steam Boat Museum.  During this period, Adrian was responsible for conducting full condition surveys for the entire collection of 60 vessels.  This priceless collection  of 60 vessels which included everything from Bog boats from 1320 wooden hydroplanes, to the largest collection of wooden steam launches in the world, including the total rebuild of the 46 foot teak steam launch Osprey.  His knowledge was instrumental to the design and construction of the conservation workshop and slipway and all method statements relating to the safe operation for HSE procedures.


Adrian has surveyed vessels in Antigua, Palma, St Tropez, Southern Greenland and Seattle,

Adrian is mainly based in the UK and covers the South Coast, Isle of Wight and the North West.

Adrian has until recently raced his Etchells class racing yacht and completed many double handed and single handed races in the Solent. He now has a wooden 28 foot Friendship sloop sailing yacht.

Adrian is a keen sea kayaker and has completed kayak expeditions around Southern Greenland and Alaska.
